“Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be”

Today, on what would be Kurt Cobain’s 50th birthday, this song is stuck in my head.

Kurt Cobain described this song as “About people, and what they’re expected to act like.”

How timely. A haunting song by a troubled man, trying to figure himself out in a world that sends nothing but mixed messages. Trying to find a way to find himself, as he is, without expectation.

Come As You Are – Nirvana

Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be
As a friend, as a friend, as and old enemy
Take your time, hurry up, the choice is yours, don’t be late
Take a rest as a friend as and old memoria
Memoria, memoria, memoria, memoria
Come doused in mud, soaked in bleach, as I want you to be
As a trend, as a friend as an old memoria, memoria
And I swear that I don’t have a gun
No, I don’t have a gun
No, I don’t have a gun
Memori-a, memori-a, memoria, memoria
And I swear that I don’t have a gun
No, I don’t have a gun
No, I don’t have a gun
No, I don’t have a gun
No, I don’t have a gun
